Phil Ivey wins pot of 2015!
The biggest loser of 2015 in online poker play is the legendary Phil Ivey, who can still boast of a positive record for the year, alongside his more embarrasing negative records. He is the player who has won the highest amount at online no limit hold'em tables in a single hand. The record was set at the end of May, when the 10 WSOP bracelet holder Ivey had a positive streak and took some scalps in the process.
Ivey got into a battle with "Otb_RedBaron" on May 31st at the $200/$400 NLHE table on PokerStars, who saw right away that the win would definitely be his.
Phil Ivey: ♠9♦7
Otb_RedBaron: ♠Q♣Q
Even though Ivey's hand doesn't seem strong, he started raising before the flop (the third player folded right away) , and seeing the common cards, OtB could feel that his position became even stronger with three of a kind.
Flop: ♥Q♥8♣6
Despite the three Queens, Otb only raised a modest amount, waiting to spring the trap on an unsuspecting Ivey. The World Champion decided to call, and the ♣5 on the turn woud change everything as Ivey was just handed a straight. It was up to him how much he would take from his opponent. And Otb made it an easy job, increasing his raise, which was in sly manner just called by Ivey, who was not yet ready to spring the trap. The ♦10 on he river could have been a warning sign before the loss, but Otb kept raising, met by Ivey's all-in. Otb was too invested and called the all-in, for the biggest showdown in 2015 - Otb's triple Queens against Ivey's straight, with a pot worth $296 thousand.
