Negreanu and Hellmuth both depart Bay 101
Almost 800 players and a gigantic prize pool awaited those who paid the entry fee to the WPT Bay 101 Main Event, where the winner will take - if no deal is struck - $1.298 million at the very end of the tour. The elite of tournament poker was of course present, all aiming at the championship title, but despite their prestige and multiple world championship bracelets, most were eliminated early on, before the prize spots - names like Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, or even Yevgeniy Timoshenko, who were all favorites and top contenders for the crown in San José. Still, many well-known players remain in the pack of 36 who remain at the Main Event, of whom Dylan Linde (pictured) is best positioned as chipleader.
